Funded by the Stonewall Foundation of Greater Sacramento, these scholarships aim to support emerging advocates who understand that fighting for equality requires ongoing commitment and resolve.
Sasha Zabegalin is one of our 2021 recipients of the Sam Catalano Scholarship.
This Fall, Sasha will be a junior majoring in Cognitive Science – Machine Learning at UC San Diego. His career goal is to become a computer scientist researching artificial intelligence.
Lovedeep Bains is one of our 2021 recipients of the Sam Catalano Scholarship.
This Fall, Lovedeep will be a junior majoring in Political science with a concentration in International Relations & a double minor in Philosophy & Applied Psychology at UC Santa Barbara. Her career goal is somewhere between becoming a Lawyer and Political Scientist.
Catie G. Bussey is one of our 2021 recipients of the Laurie McBride Memorial Scholarship.
This Fall, Catie will be a second-year graduate student at Sacramento State finishing her last year in the English Composition, Rhetoric, and Professional Writing master’s degree program. Her career goal is to become a university professor after earning a doctorate degree in Educational Leadership from Sacramento State or a PhD in English with an emphasis in Writing, Rhetoric, and Composition Studies from UC Davis.

Alexsander Willis is one of our 2021 recipients of the Laurie McBride Memorial Scholarship.
This Fall, Alexsander will be a Junior at Sac State studying Math. His career goals would be to end up working for an engineering firm doing something along the lines of complex vector analysis or working for a research institution finding new areas to apply mathematics for further scientific developments.
“A major passion that I have would be to teach and advocate for young LGBTQ+ minds to pursue the path of STEM (science, tech, math, engineering), considering the small representation the community has in the field, while also supporting them in any way possible.” -Alexsander
